HC clears Hero Alom’s way to election

High Court clears Hero Alom’s way to election

Update : 10 Dec 2018, 05:42 PM

The High Court has directed the Election Commission to accept the nomination papers of Ashraful Hossain Alam, also known as, Hero Alom, clearing the way for him to contest the 11th parliamentary election.

The bench of Justices Sheikh Hassan Arif and Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order on Monday.

Hero Alom said: “All conspiracies against me have failed."

Although the provision of having 1% signatures of voters as an independent candidate was met, the Returning Officer of Bogra 4 cancelled his nomination, he alleged.

"After filing an appeal with the Election Commission, it gave me the same excuse.”

"As a last resort, I was forced to file a writ petition with the High Court," he said.

He thanked the media, voters of his constituency, and all his supporters for their endless support in his struggle.

He added that after the Election Commission allocates his symbol, he will be able to contest as a candidate in the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.

On December 2, Alom's nomination was scrapped by the concerned returning officer on grounds of erroneous supporter list.

On November 12, the internet celebrity collected his form for Bogra 4 constituency from the Jatiya Party.

He later filed his nomination independently.

The 11th general election is scheduled to be held across Bangladesh on December 30.
