1 to die in Chapainawabganj murder case

A Chapainawabganj Additional District and Sessions Judge court has sentenced a person to death and five others to life imprisonment in the charges of killing a man in year 2010.

Judge MD Shawkat Ali of the court, gave the verdicts on Monday after hearing arguments from both sides.

Additional Public Prosecutor Adv Anjum Ara represented the state side while Adv Abdur Razzak Khan and MA Wadud were on the defence team.

In addition each convicts were fined a sum of Tk10,000.

The victim Rafikul Islam was murdered on November 23, 2010.

The convicts’ are- death sentenced, convict Niranjan Urao, life imprisonment convicts – Ganesh Urao, Dasrath Urao, Shabanu Urao and Badhua Urao and Samra Urao, all hailing from Kasrail area of Gomostapur upazila.

Of them, Badhua and Samra are in hiding at the moment.

According to case reports, Rafikul used to visit Kasrail area regularly, for his land and cloth related business. At the day of the incident Rafikul was conversing at a local tea stall, when the convicts killed him by slitting his throat.

They murdered Rafikul over previous rivalry.

At the same day the victim’s brother Abdul Jabbar filed a case at the Gomostapur police station.

Later on September 12, 2011, the investigation officer of the case SI Bani Israel submitted his report of the investigation to the court.
