The High Court on Monday set November 14 to hold hearing on a rule issued earlier for compensating family of Rajib Hossain, who died of his injuries in a city hospital on April 17 following an accident in the capital on April 3.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard, reports BSS.
“From the report submitted by the committee formed to probe that sad incident, it is now clear that Rajib had no liability in that accident. The drivers of BRTC and Swajan Paribahan were responsible for that. They had no appropriate licence to drive heavy vehicles. Samorita Hospital authorities too failed to provide him immediate treatment,” said Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal who filed the writ petition.
The High Court on May 8 ordered the two bus companies to pay Tk1 crore to the family of Rajib Hossain.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order, asking BRTC authorities and the owner of Swajan Paribahan to pay Tk50 lakh each, in compensation.
Rajib Hossain, a third-year undergraduate of Government Titumir College, died on April 17 - fighting for his life for two weeks.
On April 3, he lost his right hand at an accident involving two speeding-buses competing against one another at Sonargaon crossing in the city.
Rajib was living in a mess at Jatrabari with his two younger brothers, Mehedi Hasan, and Abdullah, seventh and sixth grader of Tamirul Millat Madrasa in the city.
Rajib had lost his mother when he was in third grade and his father at eighth grade. He had been the sole guardian of his two younger brothers since then.
