Security measures have been bolstered around Dhaka’s First Speedy Trial Tribunal near Old Dhaka Central Jail due to the much-awaited verdict in the August 21 grenade attack cases.

Police are on high alert at the entrances to Nazimuddin Road, reports Bangla Tribune.

People other than listed media persons are not allowed inside the court.

Rapid Action Battalion members, along with plainclothes police, are patrolling the roads.

Bangsal police Officer-in-Charge Saidur Rahman said they are searching people they deem suspicious.

The accused in the case have been brought to the court from Kashimpur court.

A total of 24 Awami League leaders and activists were killed – and scores injured – in the gruesome attack carried out on an Awami League rally on Dhaka’s Bangabandhu Avenue, on August 21, 2004.

Two cases were filed following the incident—one for murder, and the other filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
