The High Court will deliver its verdict on an appeal filed by Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya against his conviction today.
A bench of Justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and KM Hafizul Alam on Sunday set the date as Maya's lawyer Advocate Sayed Ahmed Raja placed further arguments before it on the appeal, reports UNB.
The bench was scheduled to deliver the verdict on Sunday.
It will hear arguments from Anti-Corruption Commissioner’s lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and then announce the verdict today.
On August 14, the High Court had fixed October 7 for delivering judgment in the case.
Maya filed an appeal with High Court on May 25, 2009. Following the appeal,the High Court acquitted him from the corruption charges on October 27, 2010.
On June 13, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecuted Maya over the case filed with the Sutrapur Police Station for amassing wealth worth Tk2.9 million illegally.
On February 14, 2008, a Dhaka court sentenced him to 13 years in jail and fined him Tk50 million over wealth accumulation.
On June 14, 2015, the Supreme Court scrapped the High Court verdict and ordered a re-hearing of his appeal.
