Update : 03 Mar 2017, 06:16 PM
The five suspected war criminals apprehended in Khulna’s Batiaghata upazila on Thursday night have jailed in a case filed over political violence in 2014. "The accused – all active members of Jamaat-e-Islami – have long been financing and patronising subversive activities," Batiaghata police OC (investigation) Enamul Haq told the Dhaka Tribune. "They were produced before a court on Friday morning and sent to jail as the police did not file any remand prayer." The five are Ashraf Sheikh of Gaoghora village, Amzad Hossain Hawlader of Chorkhali Machhalia village, Atiar Sheikh of Sundarmahal, Motassin Billah of Kismot Lakhsmikhola and Kamal Uddin Golder Bibet village. "The tribunal’s investigation agency is currently probing the allegations of war-time atrocities committed by these five people based on a complaint (No 59) lodged with the tribunal. The investigation is at the final stage,” OC Enamul said.
