A Dhaka court has issued warrants for arrest of 35 leaders and activists of a BNP-led alliance including its Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu in an arson case filed with Dhaka's Paltan police station in 2015.
Metropolitan Session Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla issued the arrest warrant on Thursday after accepting the charges against 47 BNP leaders and activists for this case.
The court issued the arrest warrants under the Explosive Substance Act where none of the defendants appeared before the court for the hearing.
The court also directed the officer-in-charge (OC) of Paltan Police Station to submit reports by April 5 on the execution of arrest warrants for the case.
Those against whom the warrant were issued are BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu, Vice-chairman Selima Rahman, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel and her special assistant advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and others.
Twelve BNP-led 20-party alliances, including Amanullah Aman, MK Anowar, Rizvi Ahmed and Shawkat Mahmud are on bail in the case.
According to the charge sheet, a group of miscreants set a taxicab aflame in front of Rokeya Mansion in Purana Paltan during the hartal and blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance on January 24, 2015.
