Khaleda’s graft cases hearing deferred till March 9

Update : 02 Mar 2017, 07:38 PM
A special court in Dhaka has fixed March 9 as the next date of hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust graft and Zia Orphanage Trust cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 3 fixed the date on Thursday in response to a time petition filed by Khaleda’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah. On January 30, Khaleda submitted an application to the court of Judge Abu Jamadar, seeking a fresh investigation into the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The former premier also expressed no confidence in the judge. The court on February 2 dismissed the petition. Later, she moved for the High Court to transfer the case from the special court. In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against six people, including Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk2.1 crore from the funds of the Zia Orphanage Trust. In 2011, the ACC accused the BNP chief and three others of misappropriating Tk3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust fund.
