HC rejects Amir Khasru’s plea challenging ACC notice

The High Court on Sunday rejected a writ petition filed by Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury challenging a notice issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) asking him to appear before it for quizzing over his alleged involvement in money laundering and amassing illegal wealth.

The division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam rejected the plea clearing the way for the anti-graft watchdog to quiz the BNP leader.

After the ruling, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told reporters that Amir Khasru now has to appear before the ACC.

Earlier on September 11, the court set Sunday to pass an order over the matter, after hearing the petition.

ACC sent a notice to Khasru’s Chawkbazar house in Dhaka on August 16 asking him to be appear before it on August 28 for interrogation over the graft allegations while the BNP leader filed a time petition with the ACC for collecting necessary documents.

Later on September 3, Amir Khasru filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the ACC’s notice.
