The High Court will hear next week the bail petition of Drik founder Shahidul Alam, who is accused of spreading anti-government rumours in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Police claim the veteran photographer used social media and an interview with Al Jazeera to instigate disorder and spread fabricated information during the recent student movement demanding safer roads.
Shahidul - who is also the chairman of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute - was picked up by police from his Dhanmondi home on August 5.
The next day, the case against him was filed at Ramna police station, where he was also placed on a seven-day remand.
The bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order to hear Shahidul’s bail petition on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Barrister Sarah Hossain and Barrister Joytirmoy Barua stood for Shahidul during the hearing.
They had filed Shahidul’s bail petition on Tuesday.
