A man has been sentenced to death and three others to life imprisonment, for the murder of one Azhar Ali of Kendua Kalibari union in Jamalpur.
The verdict was announced around 1pm Thursday by Jamalpur Additional District and Sessions Judge, SM Zillur Rahman.
State prosecutor for the case, Additional Public Prosecutor Abul Kashem Tara, said: “The convicts stabbed Azhar Ali in the village of Gopalpur under Kendua Kalibari union for an audio cassette containing Hindi songs on November 20, 2002.
“The victim’s brother, Shahjahan Ali, filed a case in this regard with Jamalpur police station,” he added.
“The prime suspect, Shafiqul Islam, has been sentenced to death and fined Tk20,000; and Sumon Miah, Jinnah, and Abu Sama have been given life imprisonment and fines of Tk10,000, failing which they will serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment,” Abul Kashem said.
