A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for Mahmudul Haque Rony, who was arrested on Sunday in a case of sexual assault near College Gate in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib gave the order on Monday afternoon when the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police produced accused Rony in court.
The court granted the remand responding to a petition for a seven-day remand, General Record officer of Chief Metropolitan Court Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam said.
Police said Rony allegedly raped a woman inside his car around 1:30am Saturday night.
Videos of a mob beating up Rony and his driver at College Gate have been circulating in the social media.

Users who posted the videos claim to have witnessed a woman struggling against two men inside a car around 1:30am Saturday night. When concerned people nearby approached the car, the driver looked as if he was trying to escape.
People pulled the woman out of the car, as well as the men who were allegedly sexually assaulting her. The cluster of people quickly turned into an angry mob; they promptly stripped the alleged rapist Rony and his driver and proceeded to land as many hits as they could manage.
Police arrested Rony soon after but the driver managed to escape.
Rony claimed to the police the two young women were prostitutes and they had agreed on a deal. But when the police interrogated the women, they said they made no such deal with Rony.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police Inspector (investigation) AK Azad said the victims have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical test.
“We are questioning him for find out the actual facts. We are also trying to arrest driver Faruq,” he added.
