Update : 22 Apr 2018, 02:38 PM
A special court has again extended bail to May 10 for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case. Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of Special Judge Court 5 passed the order on Sunday, and the BNP chief was not produced in court from jail on health grounds. The court also fixed May 10 for the next hearing on the case. Earlier on April 5, the court had extended BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in the graft case until April 22 (today). On March 28, the same court extended her graft case bail until April 5. On March 13, the court had ordered the jail authorities to produce Khaleda Zia before it on March 28 and 29 for hearings. On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station, accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources. The same court on February 8, 2018, convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case for which she remains in jail to date, despite the numerous bail extensions for the Zia Charitable Trust case.
