Court directs Mirpur zone Deputy Commissioner to probe seized yaba case

Update : 02 Apr 2018, 06:06 PM
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziarul Islam has ordered a probe to investigate how 5,000 pieces of yaba turned to 75,000. Allegations have been brought against Officer-In-Charge (OC) Dadon Fakir and Sub-Inspector (SI) SM Kawsar of Mirpur police station. Ziarul Islam on Sunday directed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mirpur zone to investigate the matter. On March 19, both the accused were served with legal notices and ordered to appear at court. The OC and SI failed to provide an explanation on the matter by the given date, and instead submitted it to the same court on April 1. The court refused to accept the written explanation and ordered the DC of Mirpur zone to further investigate the matter. The station’s General Recording Officer (GR) Altaf Hossain said: “The court has refused an unconditional apology plea from the OC and SI of Mirpur police station and ordered an investigation on the matter.” “The OC and SI have dishonoured their profession by submitting a falsified report, which has been published in newspapers,” the court said. The court directed the DC of Mirpur zone to find out whether there have been other forms of misconduct and if they were the only ones involved in this matter. The investigators, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police Kamal Hossain and Assistant Commissioner of Pallabi zone (promoted) Deputy Commissioner of police ABM Zakir Hossain collected 19 signatures of witnesses but left out Yusuf Sohel, the person who made the report. SI Kawsar has denied the allegations against him and blamed the journalist for making a false report. Earlier on March 14, a newspaper published a report about 5,000 pieces of yaba shown as 75,000 in a case filed. Later on March 19, taking the report into account, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziarul Islam, ordered the accused duo to show up and provide an explanation. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
