Update : 25 Feb 2018, 03:42 PM
A Dhaka court has extended the bail of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia until Monday in Zia Charitable Trust graft case. Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court 5 passed the order on Sunday and fixed Monday for placing arguments. On February 1, the court fixed February 25, 26 for the hearing of the case against Khaleda Zia and three other accused. Khaleda Zia could not appear before the court as she is currently in jail. On February 8, Dhaka Special Court 5 convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Khaleda's lawyer Sanaullah Miah said the court extended the bail until Monday as the High Court accepted Khaleda's appeal against the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft. Meanwhile, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, a lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission, said he moved a petition to court to produce Khaleda Zia before court on the next day hearing. On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
