High Court bans car parking inside New Market premises

Update : 16 Jan 2018, 02:45 AM
The High Court has banned all car parking inside the premises of Dhaka New Market. The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the order on Monday after hearing a petition filed by Imtiaz Ahmed, a lawyer and human rights activist. Advocate ATM Altaf Hossain argued in favour of the petition, while Deputy Attorney General Taposh Kumar Biswas represented the state. Six individuals, including secretary of the LGRD Ministry and the chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), were made respondents to the petition. The court asked the respondents to explain why their inactivity to stop the parking of vehicles inside the New Market premises should not be declared illegal. Also, in a separate ruling, the court asked the DSCC CEO as to why actions should not be taken against him as he is not taking any steps to prevent illegal parking. The court ordered the defendants to respond to the rulings within two weeks.
