A Dhaka court has sent BNP Central Sports Secretary and former captain of the national football team Aminul Haque to jail in a vandalism case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sabir Yathir Ahsan Chowdhury issued the order on Wednesday evening.
The court also gave police permission to interrogate him on December 10, said court General Records Officer Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque.
Aminul's lawyer Sanaullah Mia applied for bail, which was rejected by the court.
The case investigation officer SI Zafar Ali Biswas of Shahbagh police applied for a seven-day remand.
According to the case file, activists of BNP and its affiliate bodies carried out widespread violence around Ramna, Matsya Bhaban and the Secretariat on December 5 after BNP chief Khaleda Zia made a court appearance in Bakshibazar.
Aminul was arrested from the spot.
