The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities against Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, accusing Salman F Rahman and his syndicate of embezzling Tk22,000 crore in connection with vaccine procurement during the Covid-19 pandemic.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain provided this information on Monday.
He said the ACC has initiated an inquiry against Salman and relevant individuals over the alleged misappropriation of Tk22,000 crore in the name of purchasing Covid-19 vaccines.
According to him, the distribution cost of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine imported from India was shown as Tk40,000 crore, while the actual expenditure was Tk18,000 crore.
The remaining Tk22,000 crore was embezzled by Salman F Rahman and his syndicate, said Akhtar.
To investigate this corruption, the ACC has formed a four-member inquiry team.
