Palak, Jyoti arrested in corruption case

Former state minister for post, telecommunication, and information technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Safi Muddassir Khan Jyoti, son of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, have been arrested in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain (Galib) issued the arrest orders following petitions submitted by the ACC on Monday.

The information was confirmed by ACC Court Inspector Amir Hossain.

The ACC submitted two separate petitions to show them arrested.

Prosecutor Jahangir Alam represented the ACC during the hearing, after which the court granted the petitions.

The petition to show Palak arrested was filed by the case's investigating officer, ACC Assistant Director Al Amin.

The petition stated that Zunaid Ahmed Palak was already in jail in connection with another case filed with Jatrabari Police Station.

He is listed as an accused in this case under the Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1.

The petition to show Jyoti arrested was submitted by ACC Assistant Director Md Abul Kalam Azad. According to the petition, the accused, Shafi Modasser Khan Jyoti, in collusion with his father, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, illegally acquired assets worth Tk198,978,502.

Jyoti used and possessed these assets and conducted numerous suspicious transactions by opening a business entity and transferring, converting, and relocating a total of Tk847,757,572 in personal and business accounts.
