Ex-minister Mosharraf Hossain acquitted in ACC case

BNP Standing Committee member and former health minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, his son Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, and former Directorate General of Health Services line director Dr Mahbubur Rahman have been acquitted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The verdict was delivered by Judge Md Abul Kashem of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-1 on Thursday, as the charges against the accused were not proven.

The defendants, including Mosharraf and his son, appeared in court at 2:16pm. Judge Md Abul Kashem entered the courtroom at 2:26pm and announced the verdict in their presence.

According to the case details, the accused were charged with abusing their power, colluding to deceive the government, and manipulating tenders related to air tickets for officials traveling abroad under the Ministry of Health and a World Bank project.

The case was filed on September 1, 2008, by ACC Deputy Director Lutfar Rahman.

On April 12, 2017, ACC Assistant Director Mostafizur Rahman submitted the charge sheet against the accused.

Subsequently, on July 30, 2018, the court framed charges and began the trial.

During the proceedings, the court recorded testimonies from 12 out of 19 witnesses before concluding the trial.
