The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued a notice to former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh regarding allegations of corruption.

A three-member investigation team has been formed to probe accusations that Taposh has acquired assets worth crores of taka beyond his known sources of income.

The commission has emphasized the importance of hearing Taposh’s statements in relation to these allegations.

He has been summoned to appear before the commission on November 3 at 11am.

The commission said that failure to comply with this notice will result in the presumption that he has no defence against the allegations.

Where is Taposh now?

According to sources, amid a student uprising, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh secretly fled the country on August 3, taking a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Sources confirmed he travelled alone, without family.

Two days later, his party chief, ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, also left the country for shelter in India.

On August 17, The International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants against 46 individuals, including Hasina and Obaidul Quader, for allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity, with Taposh included in this list.

Taposh is also accused in the BDR mutiny of 2009.
