ACC: Mozammel Haque involved in issuing fake freedom fighter certificate

Commission investigates ex-MP Nurul Islam Nahid for alleged wealth through corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has uncovered evidence indicating that former liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque was involved in issuing fake freedom fighter certificates during his tenure.

This revelation is part of a broader inquiry into allegations of corruption and the illicit accumulation of wealth linked with Awami League leader Mozammel .

Regarding this, the commission has decided to conduct an open inquiry into these allegations.

The commission intelligence unit investigations revealed that Mozammel Haque, a former Member of Parliament for Gazipur-1, allegedly amassed crores of taka through corrupt practices in various projects, including the fraudulent issuance of fake freedom fighter certificates. 

The antigraft watchdog investigations reveal he owns multiple properties, including a three-story building and a two-story building in Joydebpur, Gazipur, along with significant bank deposits and investments. 

The intelligence investigations team claimed that he also possesses several vehicles.  

Meanwhile, the ACC also investigating former education minister Nurul Islam Nahid over accusations of accumulating wealth through corrupt practices. 

The commission finds that Nahid reportedly owns valuable properties, including a flat in Uttara and agricultural land in Sylhet, along with significant investments in savings certificates and bank deposits.

He has investments in savings certificates under his name and his wife's name, as well as deposits in various banks, read the report.

It is reported that his brother, Dr Nazrul Islam, residing in the UK, and his friend, Kamal Ahmed, residing in the US, have helped him transfer a large sum of money abroad. 

During his tenure as minister, he also allegedly extorted hundreds of crores from contractors in exchange for commissions, according to the intelligence investigations report.
