Jessore Education Board scam: ACC files case against chairman, 9 others

In October last year, the commission filed a case against five officials of the board for misappropriating Tk2.5 crore

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against ten officials of Jessore Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, including its chairman, for embezzling Tk1.20 crore by forging bank statements.

ACC Assistant Director Mahfuz Iqbal filed the case with the ACC  Integrated District Office in Jessore on Tuesday.

The accused are Jessore Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Chairman Prof Mollah Amir Hossain, two assistant secretaries (common service) Jahangir Alam and Ashraful Islam, Security Officer Monir Hassan, Deputy Assistant Engineer Kamal Hassan, Sports Officer Asafudoula, Audit Officer Abdus Salam, Systems Analyst Sharif Salma Kahinur, and two accounts officers, Jahanara Khatun and Mizanur Rahman.

The commission found evidence of embezzlement against the accused over purchasing computers worth Tk1.4 crore, computer parts of over Tk68 lakh and printers worth Tk1.03 crore with extra amounts against the market price in three fiscal years-2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19.

According to the case statement, after checking the market price, the Jessore Public Works Department fixed the total price of the items at Tk1.96 crore but the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board spent an additional Tk1.20 crore on the market price.

In October last year, the commission also filed a case against five officials of Jessore Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, including its chairman and secretary, for misappropriating Tk2.5 crore.
