The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved three separate cases against five people, including the former and current deputy directors of the 250-bed TB Hospital in Dhaka, on charges of embezzling over Tk4 crore to buy hospital equipment.
Deputy Assistant Director Shahjahan Miraj will file the cases soon, ACC Secretary Anwar Hossain Howlader confirmed on Tuesday.
The commission found evidence that they colluded with each other to embezzle government funds to show an additional price of the bill of around Tk4. 46 crore in the name of purchasing the hospital equipment in 2017-2018 fiscal year, the secretary said.

Two of the five accused are former deputy director of the 250-bed TB Hospital Dr Md Imran Ali and Deputy Director Dr Md Abu Raihan.
The three others are Munshi Forrukh Hossain, owner of Ahmed Enterprise, Afsana Islam Kakoli, owner of Nirjhar Enterprise, and Mausumi Islam, owner of Promixo Limited.
According to the commission’s report, Dr Md Imran Ali, Dr Abu Raihan, and Mausumi Islam of Promixo Ltd. embezzled Tk1.47 crore in the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
In the same fiscal year, with the help of Munshi Farrukh Hossain, the two officials of the hospital embezzled Tk2.42 crore.

Dr Imran and Dr Raihan also embezzled Tk56 lakh through another bill with the help of Afsana Islam Kakoli of Nirjhar Enterprise, read the report.
The anti-graft watchdog approved the filing of three separate cases against them under Section 409/109 of the Penal Code and Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 for embezzlement.
