The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday arrested an engineer of Roads and Highways Department of Barguna from his office reportedly while taking Tk14.50 lakh as bribe.
Based on a tip-off, an ACC team led by Patuakhali Coordinated District Office Deputy Director Jahangir Alam conducted a drive at the office of Shamsul Shahriar, deputy divisional engineer of Barguna Roads and Highways Department, and arrested him along with the bribe money around 3:30 pm.
Executive Magistrate Yeanur Rahman was present during the drive.
Jahangir Alam said engineer Shamsul sanctioned a bill of Tk6 crore of a project in exchange for Tk15 lakh as bribe.
Based on secret information, the ACC team raided his office and caught him red-handed while taking the bribe, he said.
ACC Assistant Director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said a case was filed against Shamsul with Barguna sadar model police station.
