ACC on the hunt for gas and power theft

Update : 29 Jan 2018, 10:04 PM
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted two separate drives against the corruption in the gas and power sectors based on specific complaints. Two ACC teams raided Titas Gas and Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) offices on January 23 and 28, to identify the people involved in illegal gas and electricity connections. The drive was carried out in connection with specific allegations by customers at the ACC Complaint Center. In the operation, illegal gas connections were found in eight floors of a building in Azimpur. The ACC is now trying to identify the Titas officials responsible. On the other hand, another team of the ACC conducted raids to monitor allegations of illegal electricity connections, issue of demand notes and electricity theft at the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) office in Banasree. ACC Director General (Administration) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said that the responsibility of the organization is to prevent the theft of electricity and gas, illegal connections and revenue fraud, and to identify the officials and employees of state-run organizations involved in these crimes. He added that the ACC's "trap team" is constantly monitoring the bribes for illegal connections at state-run establishments.
