ACC sues United Hospital for tax dodge

Update : 11 Jan 2018, 09:26 PM
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a tax evasion case against the United Hospital at Gulshan police station. ACC Deputy Director Md Mahbubul Alam started the lawsuit on Thursday for the hospital's alleged evasion of more than Tk21 crore in taxes to the former Dhaka City Corporation (DCC). According to the First Information Report (FIR), a six-member ACC investigation team found that the hospital did not pay a net tax of Tk21,44,26,993 since its inception until December 31, 2011. The commission accused United Hospital Managing Director Faridur Rahman Khan and former DCC commissioner Rahima Begum for illegal facilitation of tax in favour of the hospital. Rahima, also a member of DCC’s Assessment Review Board, abetted United Hospital in the absence of the chairman and other two members of board.
