Discussion, red flag procession mark Mao Zedong’s 50th death anniversary at DU

Speakers call for united movement to establish rights of exploited people and build a discrimination-free society

A discussion, red flag procession and cultural program were held at Payera Chattar in the TSC area of Dhaka University on Wednesday to mark the 50th death anniversary of Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong.

The programs were organized throughout the day.

A red flag procession was held at the beginning, followed by a discussion on Mao Zedong’s political struggle, his role in opposing imperialism and exploitation, and his contribution to the liberation movements of oppressed people.

Later, revolutionary mass songs, songs and poems were performed at a cultural program organized by Gonoshilpir Ganer Dal.

Speakers said Mao Zedong’s political thoughts and teachings remain relevant to struggles against imperialism, exploitation, discrimination and oppression in different parts of the world.

They called for a united movement to establish the rights of exploited people, including workers and peasants, and build a discrimination-free society.

The program was presided over by Hasan Fokri, president of Shaheed Biplobi o Deshpremik Smriti Sangsad and convener of the Comrade Mao Zedong 50th Death Anniversary Observance Committee.

Comrade Arunav Ashraf, joint president of Biplobi Chhatra-Jubo Andolon, Dhaka Metropolitan, conducted the program.

Among those who spoke were Chhatra Gonomancha Joint Convener Ferdous Rahman Rod, Khanan Patrika Editor Badal Shah Alam, Biplobi Chhatra-Jubo Andolon President Taufika Priya, Naya Ganotantrik Gonomorcha President Jafar Hosen and Jatiya Ganotantrik Gonomancha President Masud Khan.

The speakers highlighted various aspects of the Chinese people’s long political struggle under Mao Zedong’s leadership.

They said the Chinese revolution was achieved through a prolonged movement against imperialism, bureaucratic-comprador capitalism and feudalism. They also said Mao’s leadership influenced liberation movements among oppressed people in different countries.

The program called for strengthening the people’s movement against imperialism, expansionism, bureaucratic-comprador capitalism, feudalism and religious fascism.
