A unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Dhaka University’s Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall has displayed a banner titled “Guestroom er Amolnama,” created using screenshots of Messenger conversations, as part of an awareness campaign against alleged “guest room” and “mass room” culture in student dormitories.
The banner, which was installed in the hall’s guest room late Sunday night, reportedly names six individuals and includes screenshots of their conversations, which organizers claim serve as evidence of involvement in alleged guest room-related misconduct.
According to Chhatra Dal activists at the hall, the initiative was intended to raise awareness among newly admitted students about past incidents of alleged abuse in residential halls. They also said that previously circulated chat screenshots, reportedly documenting incidents linked to student hall activities, were used in compiling the banner.
Speaking on the campaign, Shamsul Haq Anan, senior joint convener of the hall unit of Chhatra Dal, said, “Some Shibir members who allegedly operated covertly under Chhatra League identity were involved in controlling guest rooms and harassing students, while also maintaining political affiliations to secure influence within the halls.”
"After August 5th, most of them surfaced openly as Shibir. We've exposed that hypocrisy with evidence, right there in the guest room — showing how they abused students while quietly enjoying all the perks of being in Chhatra League," he added.
The six individuals named in the banner include Mohammad Ismail Sadik Tahsin (Cultural Secretary of the hall union), Tasnim Rubaiyat, Araf Mahmud, Md Hasan Al Banna, Mustaqim Rahman, and Mahmudal Hasan, whom Chhatra Dal claims serves as the secretary of the Islami Chhatra Shibir unit at the hall.
Hall Chhatra Dal Convener Hasibur Rahman Asif said, “Individuals previously accused of involvement in guest room-related harassment under the banner of Chhatra League are now active in other student platforms. This initiative was taken to inform and caution freshers about such individuals.”
University authorities or those named in the allegations have not yet issued public responses regarding the claims.
