Unidentified miscreants have partially damaged the decoration of the grave of late president Ziaur Rahman in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Out of 118 pieces of marble plates of the tomb of the BNP founder, 11 were found broken on Thursday morning.
Confirming the news, BNP chairperson's press wing official Syrul Kabir Khan told the Dhaka Tribune: “We are estimating that miscreants broke the marble plates of the grave in Chandrima Udyan on Wednesday night.”
“We do not know who was behind the shameful act.”
The commander of the Central Sector, BDF (Bangladesh Defense Forces) Sector 11, during the nations war of independence in 1971, was assassinated at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30.
He was awarded Bir Uttom (the highest gallantry award for a living military personnel) for his wartime services, and retired from the Bangladesh Army as a Lieutenant General in 1979.
