The United States is disappointed to learn of intimidation and violence during the city corporation elections.
The US Embassy in Dhaka expressed its dismay in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are disappointed by widespread, first-hand, and credible reports of vote-rigging, intimidation and violence that have occurred at polling stations today," the statement reads.
It also expressed disappointment over BNP’s decision to boycott the city corporation polls.
"We call on all parties involved to work within the law and avoid violence at all costs," it said.
The statement reads that it is important that irregularities be investigated transparently and impartially.
The US also condemned any use of violence for political objectives.
Voting for the Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, and Chittagong City Corporation has ended amid scattered incidents of vandalism and clashes.
Terming the ongoing city polls farcical, BNP has rejected the polls in three city corporations under Dhaka and Chittagong.
Polling began at 8am and ended at 4pm without any interval.
Voting at two centres in Dhaka and one in Chittagong was suspended following vandalism and clashes.
Ten people including a presiding officer were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League-backed councillor candidates at the Kaful High School polling centre.
Journalists were allegedly barred by police personnel from entering several polling stations in Dhaka.
