Voting at Suritola centres suspended

Update : 28 Apr 2015, 05:31 AM

Voting at three polling stations under Suritola Model Primary School has been suspended following vandalism at the centre around 9:30am.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hossain made the declaration of the suspension, stating he finally suspended the voting as per the direction from the Election Commission.

Earlier, Suritola Model Primary School Presiding Officer Nitish Kumar Saha said they were forced to take the decision as some miscreants vandalised ballot boxes in the morning.

When contacted, Abdul Ahad, senior assistant commissioner of Kotwali Zone, said he heard about the vandalism and was trying to get the details.

One polling agent named Moshiur Rahman, appointed by an independent councillor candidate with the flask symbol, said they vandalised the ballot boxes failing to cast their votes since the presiding officer was absent till 9am.

Besides, voting was also suspended at Pagauji School centre near Jagannath University around 10am.

Some voters there said authorities were forced to suspend the vote casting, due to some muscle-men of the candidates with the "Pushcart" and "Kite" symbols.
