BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City corporation Tabith M Awal has cast his vote at the capital's Manarat Dhaka International School and College polling centre.
He cast his vote around 8:04am.
Tabith M Awal said he would accept the result if free, fair and credible election was held. “If people are able to cast their votes peacefully, if fair polls are held, I will accept the election result whatever it is,” he told journalists after casting his vote. Tabith, 36 is the youngest mayoral candidate for the city polls. Tabith urged the media people to keep their eyes on the polls so that none can rig the election and also thanked the media for their efforts in ensuring a fair poll. When asked whether his polling agents were sent in every polling stations, Tabith said: “I have cast my votes just now. I can tell you after sometime.”
Elections to the three city corporations - Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation - is being held from 8am to 4pm today.
The government has declared a general holiday in the three city corporations so that all voters can exercise their voting rights.
