Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has cast her vote for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls at Dhaka City College polling centre.
The premier cast her vote at around 8:03am Tuesday.
Sheikh Hasina said the city corporation polls would be peaceful, fair and people would be able to cast their votes without fear. “I will call upon the people of the city to cast their votes without any fear,” remarked Hasina after casting her vote. Responding to the query of the journalists, the Awami League president said she voted for her party-backed candidates and hoped her candidates would win the polls. When asked whether the elections would be fair, Hasina said: “We have fought for the people's right to vote. So there is no room for vote rigging. People were deprived of voting rights, but now people can cast their votes peacefully.” Replying to the BNP's threat of waging a movement if fair polls do not take place, Hasina said: “It proves they (BNP) do not give any importance to the people's verdict. They are not respectful to the people's verdict.” She also said if anyone tries to violate law and order, then the government would take stern action.
Voting in the three city corporations began at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any interval.
