Throwing a challenge at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said if she could not prove the alleged graft in the Padma Bridge project, cases would be filed against her.
“Begum Zia must give evidence as to her allegations. I challenge her to show if there was any corruption in the Padma Bridge project,” he said while visiting the construction work of an underpass at Comilla’s Padua Bazar yesterday.
“A vested quarter does not want the bridge to be built. That is why they have been conspiring against the government. The project will be completed with our own money within this tenure,” the minister added.
About the up coming Dhaka and Chittagong city corporation elections, he criticised Khaleda Zia’s comment about the fairness of the polls. “From her statement, it seems like she has accepted defeat even before the polls. She made similar statement before the previous city corporation polls, where they won in majority.”
Director of the Chittagong highway four-lane project Engineer Hasan Ibne Alam and Roads and Highways Department’s Additional Chief Engineer Shibib Ahmed were present at the time .
