The government has finalised a list of 56 businesspersons under seven categories to recognise their contribution to the economy as Commercially Important Person, commonly known as CIP, for the year 2014.
The recognition will be made based on their contribution to job creation, development of industries, manufacturing of goods, increase in national income, and above all, their contribution towards economic growth of the country.
The government is providing the award in line with CIP (Industry) Policy 2012.
On the list, 12 were selected as ex-officio, 21 from recommendation of large industry, nine from medium industry, 6 from small industry, two from micro-industry, one from cottage industry and five from service industry, according to a gazette published on April 21, 2015.
The Ministry of Industries will formally award the CIP (Industry) 2014 status at a function in Dhaka later.
CIPs from ex-officio category are The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Chamber of Industries President AK Azad, National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh President Mirza Nurul Gani Shovon, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Atiqul Islam, Bangladesh Employers Federation President Tapan Chowdhury, Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh President Nasreen Fatema Awal, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President AKM Salim Osman, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sangita Ahmed, Bangladesh Jute Mills Association President Mohammad Shams-Uz-Joha, Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rupali Haque Chowdhury, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry former president Mohammad Shahjahan Khan and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry former president Rokia Afzal Rahman.

CIPs selected under small industry category are Kiam Metal Industries Ltd MD Mizber Rahman, Baly Yarn Dyeing Ltd MD Masud Zaman, Footbed Footwear Ltd MD Aniruddho Kumer Ray, Karim Spinning Mills Ltd Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker, Amanat Shah Weaving Processing Ltd director Lutfa Begum, and Technomedia Ltd MD Joshoda Jibon Debnath.
RMM Leather Industries Chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin and AB Fashion Maker proprietor Sanaul Haque Babul were selected under micro-industry category while Janani Weaving Factory proprietor Rafiqul Islam was selected under cottage industry category.
Under the service sector, names of CIP recipients are Navana Real Estate Vice-Chairman Sajedul Islam, STS Holdings Ltd Managing Director Khandaker Monir Uddin, Shanta Properties Ltd Director Jasmine Sultana, Navana Limited Chairman Shafiul Islam and Sheltech Limited Managing Director Taufiq M Seraj.
The selected CIPs will enjoy a number of facilities including a card to be used for entering secretariat, invitation in national programmes and city corporation’s citizen reception programmes for the next one year since the receiving date of the card.
During their business-related visits, they will get reserved seats in government’s air services, rail, road and waterways.
With regard to their visit abroad, they will be awarded with a letter of introduction from the Foreign Ministry which they can submit to high commissions and Embassies for getting visa.
The CIPs, their spouses and children will get priority in getting cabin facilities in government hospitals for medical treatment. They will also be allowed to use VIP lounge II in airport.
The government can also include their names as members while formulation of industry-related policy.
