Not everything you see in the high seas is produced by Disney. Black Sails - a Starz original - is a swashbuckling adventure drama for the grownups. So far, there are two seasons and that means you’ve got a good chunk to binge on for at least two sit-downs in the weekend. This show revolves around, at the time, the most infamous pirate Captain Flint and his crew. Believe it or not the story takes place 20 years prior to the classic “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson.
After 18 episodes, we can safely say this is possibly the most realistic version of a pirate’s life in the early 18th century. With borrowed elements by another Starz hit, Spartacus, this makes for a very entertaining watch. But this goes past the action and overall intrigue. The performances by each cast member is spot on, as each character consistently draws in the audience after every scene. Mind you, this a raw portrayal of the day in the life of a pirate. The island of Nassau (piracy capital, and of the Bahamas) possessed a very hedonistic way of living for pirates and all of its natives. In other words, there is plenty of adult content alongside the thrilling drama. Keep the kids away and enjoy.
