Two killed in Benapole clash

Two persons, including a former union parishad member, have been hacked to death in a clash over cutting a tree at Raghunathpur village under Benapole Port police stationi Jessore.

The deceased are Abdullah, 50, son of Jasimuddin; and Samsher Ali Budu, 60, son of Abdul Khalil.

Three others were also injured during the clash.

Benapole police Sub-Inspector Deen Mohammad said a tree was uprooted during storm on Thursday night.

"Some villagers were cutting the tree around 9am Friday when former UP member Abdullah obstructed them. At one stage of altercation over the matter, Naosher and his men hacked Abdullah. Four others were injured when they came forward to save Abdullah," said the SI.

The officer said Abdullah died on the spot and Shamsher Ali died while undergoing treatment at Jessore 250-Bed Hospital.

After the incident, angry locals set the houses of the attackers on fire.

Benapole Port police OC Apurbo Hasan said additional police were deployed in the area to avert further untoward situation.
