Nor'wester kills 1, injures 65 in Brahmanbaria

A person has been Killed and 65 others injured when a nor’wester swept over two upazilas of Brahmanbaria.

The deceased is Abdul Mannan, 60, of Narayanpur.

Meanwhile, some 500 houses, a primary school, and some electricity polls were damaged in the storm that swept through 25 villages of Nobinogor and Kashba upazilas on Monday night.

Besides, the production of eight electrical units of Ashuganj Tap electrical centres were stopped due to the thunderstorm. Later, the production of six units resumed.

Nobinogor OC Rupok Kumar Shah said: “Abdul died when a wall collapsed on him during the storm around 8:30pm. Thirty-five others were also injured in the storm in different areas.”

He said the injured have been admitted to the upazila health complex.

On the other hand, 30 people were injured in the storm in Kashba.

Nobinogor UNO Abu Shahed Chowdhury and Kashba Kashba Badoir union Chairman Mohammad Maruf confirmed about the damage to the Dhaka Tribune.

Brahmanbaria District Commissioner Dr Mahmud Mosharaf Hossain said the UNOs concerned have been asked to visit the spot to inspect the damage.

He said the victims will be given financial aid from the administration once a list is prepared with their names.
