A person has been killed and 35 others have been injured in a clash between the people of four villages over gambling under the Sadullahpur upazila in Gaibandha.
The deceased is Abu Taleb, 45, son of Pocha Mahmud Kabiraj of Choknodi village under the upazila.
Idilpur UP Chairman Hasanur Rahman said: “A gang of youths beat up the group who arranged the gambling at Raghobendropur village after losing money in the game on Friday. Later, the clash spread among the villagers and left 15 people injured on the day.”
Dhaperhat UP Chairman Shahidul Islam Shipon said: “As a sequel to the clash, several groups of people of Raghobendropur, Kathal Lakshmipur, and Choknodi villages attacked Tilokpara village with local weapons around 9am Sunday, leaving Abu Taleb dead on the spot and 20 others injured.”
Dhaperhat investigation In-Charge SI Jalal Uddin said police took the situation under control and the injured were admitted into local hospitals.
“Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid a further untoward situation,” added the SI.
