All governments that have assumed power in Bangladesh owe their lineage to the Mujibnagar government as they are the continuation of that government, LGRD Minister and Awami League Secretary General Syed Ashraful Islam said yesterday while addressing a discussion commemorating the Mujibnagar Day.
“The Mujibnagar governemnet saw through the establishment of Bangladesh; it was not an interim government,” the minister also said.
The ministry of Liberation War and the district administration organised discussion on the Mujibnagar Day was held at the Sheikh Hasina stage of the Mujibnagar Memorial in Amrokanan, Meherpur.
In the chairperson’s adress, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammed Nasim said: “Begum Khaleda Zia wants elections. It will happen, but not before 2019.
“You [Khaleda Zia] want to assume power through burning people. We will work for the people, love them, win their hearts, and come back to power.”
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the Mujibnagar government recuperated liberty for the Bangalis through taking that oath – this liberty was lost at the hands of the British by the conspiracies of Mir Jafar, Rai Durlobh.
“Presently, people are being burnt as collateral for assuming power – in the same way of Sheikh Hasina’s attempted assassination in 2004, the killing of Bangabandhu and the four national leaders right after liberation,” he added.
Among others, Minister for Liberation War AKM Mojammel Haque, Joint Secretary General of the Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif were also present in the discussion.
The days programme started with hoisting the colours of Bangladesh by the District Commissioner accompanied by the Police Superintendent at 8am.
The central Leaders of the Awami League placed floral-wreathes in the memorial around 10 am followed by parade from civilian forces, scouts and various educational institutions.
