Rangpur medical college closed sine die

Update : 15 Apr 2015, 09:53 AM

The authorities of Rangpur Medical College and Hospital have closed the institution for an indefinite period, following the factional clash between two groups of the ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

The students were asked to leave the dormitory by 3pm on Wednesday, college principal Dr Zakir Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.

The principal said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the academic council of the college to evade possible disorder on campus.

“Earlier in the day, college authorities held a meeting with the factions of BCL. But, the meeting ended without reaching a decision for reconciliation,” said Dr Zakir.

A large number of police personnel were deployed on the campus to avoid further untoward incidents.

At least 10 students were injured during a clash between the two BCL factional groups over establishing supremacy in Mukta Hostel of the college on Tuesday night. Three of the injured were admitted to RMCH.
