Nation celebrating Pohela Boishaikh
The nation is celebrating “Pohela Boishakh”, the first day of Bengali New Year 1422, amid much enthusiasm and traditional gaiety. To welcome the Bengali New Year, different socio-cultural organisations and government institutions have chalked out elaborate programmes in the capital as elsewhere across the country. The day is a public holiday.
Khaleda to attend Boishakh celebration at Nayapaltan
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to visit the party's central office in Nayapaltan in the afternoon to attend the Pohela Boishakh celebration. She will be visiting the Nayapaltan office after two years.
Medical student drowns in Noakhali
A student of Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College drowned in a pond of the college in Begumgonjupazila of Noakhali. The victim Ahsan Azad, 20, was a first year student of the college, and son of Md Abul Kalam ofMotabi of Sadar upazila in Feni.

Door-to-door canvassing continues in Dhaka
Mayoral and councillor aspirants for the Dhaka city polls continued their door-to-door canvassing yesterday, seeking votes for the April 28 elections. Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Annisul Huq canvassed in Mohammadpur and Lalmatia, exchanging Pohela Boishakh greetings with voters in the areas.
Guenter Grass dies
Guenter Grass, the Nobel-winning German writer who gave voice to the generation that came of age during the horrors of the Nazi era but later ran into controversy over his own World War II past and stance toward Israel, has died. He was 87.
Matthias Wegner, spokesman for the Steidl publishing house, confirmed that Grass died Monday morning in a Luebeck hospital.

RAB identifies new militant group
Rapid Action Battalion has identified a new militant group, Shaheed Hamza Brigade (SHB), which operates its activities in Chittagong. RAB 7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mista Uddin made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at the elite force headquarters in Patenga on Monday afternoon.
