Medical student drowns in Noakhali

A student of Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College has drowned in a pond of the college in Begumgonj upazila of Noakhali.

The victim Ahsan Azad, 20, was a first year student of the college, and son of Md Abul Kalam of Motabi of Sadar upazila in Feni.

Dr Bappa Ratan, vice- principal of the college, said Ahsan drowned when the tried to collect a football which fell into the pond around 8am Tuesday.

The ball fell in the middle of the pond when the victim and some of his friends were playing football in the college's field near the pond, he said.

He began to drowning suddenly when he reached near the ball by swimming, he added.

Locals rescued him and rushed to the college's hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to the medical college's morgue for an autopsy.

Dr Abdus Satter Faraezi, secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association of Noakhali Unit, expressed a deep sympathy over the death.
