Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday warned aspiring candidates of the upcoming city polls that anyone who has a criminal record, a warrant issued, or is found carrying arms will be detained and placed before the court.
The DMP boss made the statement yesterday during the view exchange meeting between mayoral and councillor candidates of Dhaka South City Corporation and Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad at the capital’s Krishibid Auditorium.
Asaduzzaman said: “During the election period, police will work abiding the law and keep high professionalism, integrity, and impartiality by maintaining the electoral code.”
“If any police personnel is found using black money or muscle power, then they will not hesitate to take action.” he added.
The CEC reiterated Asaduzzaman's words and asked all to ensure free and fair polling centres during the elections. Rakibuddin asked the law enforcement agencies to act impartially during the city polls and not to spare anyone considering their political affiliations.
“Everyone must work in an unbiased manner. Keep the voting centres safe. Nothing illegal must occur inside the centres,” he added.
