Jatra Biroti

Update : 10 Apr 2015, 05:57 PM

Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the city, Jatra offers the opportunity to call a time out and spend a quality evening with your loved ones, sipping away a cup of coffee and listening to the sweet melody of some the most exquisite musicians in the country. To make the experience better and everlasting, Jatra Biroti will continue to host a three-day recreational event every week.

The first day of the event, which was on Thursday, April 9, was presented by Saymon Zakaria. The event was called “Bhaabher Hawaye Hawaye,” and represented the history and identity of Bangladeshi Spiritual Music, which dates back 2000 years. The people of this region put-upon spiritual music to devote to Buddhism and eventually started practising body and soul-based music. Gradually, Baul Music emerged from this, which focused more on the body and humanity.

Artists like Kohinoor Akhtar Golapi, sufi and baul music specialist From Kushtia, Nofel Uddin, dotara player from Pabna and many more joined the stage to deliver a tremendous performance for the audience.

Day two of the extravaganza, which was a Friday, April 10, was an open mic session. Anyone and everyone is welcome on the stage with their instruments, voice and skills.

The last day of the event, which was Saturday, April 11, ended with Electro/Acoustic performances: funky, folksy and jazzy.

The tickets are Tk500  (tea & phuckha included) for each day. The gate opens at 6pm sharp and closes after the place is bustling with 100 enthusiasts and music lovers.
