Five members of a family have been killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a minibus and an auto-rickshaw at Khedabagh area on Kurigram-Rangpur highway.
Victims were identified as auto rickshaw driver Faruq, 45, his mother Jubeda Khatun, 68, his wife Shaher Banu, 30, his daughter Lima, 6, and his niece Shammi Akhter, 10.
All of the deceased are from the same family and hail from Shib Bari village under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, BSS reported quoting police.
Police said a Kurigram-bound minibus from Rangpur collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw at Khedabagh on Kurigram-Rangpur highway on Tuesday noon.
The head-on collision left three persons including the auto-rickshaw driver Faruq dead on the spot. Two seriously injured people were taken to Kurigram Sadar Hospital where on duty doctor declared them dead.
Four injured persons were admitted to Kurigram Hospital and the rest were released after giving first aid.
Police seized the bus which was lying at the roadside ditch. However, driver and helper of the bus managed to escape from the spot.
A case was filed with Lalmonirhat police station in this connection.
