In the biggest spree of promotions since this Awami League government assumed office, a total of 873 bureaucrats were elevated to the ranks of deputy, joint and additional secretary yesterday.
Mohibul Haque, a joint secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, confirmed the news.
In a major spree after the January 5 elections last year, 70 deputy secretaries of various ministries got promoted to the rank of joint secretary.
According to sources, the mass promotion comes on the back of a three-year delay as deserving candidates could not be promoted because of last two years’ political turmoil.
Mohibul said that 231 additional secretaries, 299 joint secretaries and 343 deputy secretaries have been promoted.
A list containing the names of promotees is available on the website of the Public Administration Ministry.
Sources said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also in charge of the ministry, approved the summary of the promotions yesterday. Before giving the approval, she scrutinised the names.
Anser Ali Khan, chief executive officer Dhaka South City Corporation who got promoted to the rank of additional secretary, told Dhaka Tribune last night: “The promotions have got delayed for a long time. We are happy now that we got promoted.
