One killed in police-shibir clash in Noakhali

At least one person died and another injured in a clash between law enforcers and Shibir men in Noakhali’s Maijdi area yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk, 23, son of Nurul Amin of Kadir Hanif union of the Sadar upazila.

According to police sources, some activists of Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, brought out a flash procession and tried to vandalise vehicles upon hearing the verdict against Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman.

At one point police opened fire to bring the situation under control. At that time two persons were injured.

Omar Faruk received injury to his head while Shibir activist Barkat Ullah Rakib, 20 was hit by a bullet.

When police took them to Noakhali General Hospital, duty doctor declared Omar Faruk dead. 

Officer in-Charge of Sudharam police station Anwar Hossain claimed that Omar Faruk was injured in the head after falling on the street while trying to flee. 

Police also detained another Shibir activist Rasel from the spot.
