Flights on Dhaka-Jessore route resumes

After over eight years, flight on the Dhaka-Jessore route started operation yesterday.

Although flights of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines will not operate on the route, flights of three operators – United Air, Novo Air and US-Bangla – will run on the route.

Mohammad Shahjahan, manager of the Jessore airport, told the Dhaka Tribune that a flight had landed the airport around 8pm with 35 passengers. Later, a function was held on the occasion.

State Minister for Public Works Ministry Ismat Ara Sadek was present at the function as chief guest.

Lawmaker Kazi Nabil Ahmed and government high officials were also present at the programme.

Now, a flight will run on the route a day, said Mohammad Shahjahan, adding that later the number will be increased in phases. The flight is supposed to take off from Dhaka airport at 6:15pm and land at Jessore airport at 6:40pm.

Prices of the air ticket is fixed from Tk3,500 to Tk5,500.

Executive Officer of US-Bangla Air told the Dhaka Tribune that they would try their best to ensure quality services to passengers.

Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Rahsed Khan Menon visited the district a few months back. Then, leaders of Jessore Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested the minister to take measures to resume flight on the route. Then, the minister assured them of taking measures to resume flight on the route.

Flight on the Dhaka-Jssore route was suspended in April, 2007 due to huge loss.
